Thirty Thousand Sighs

by Randy Hatcher

Thirty thousand sighs
for a rusted bulk
that spins on buckled spine
in a darkness beyond pity.

Hell-for-leather weather
and lead-feathered birds
that fluff their route
to microwave city.

Come land of ocean skies!
Meet my sweet peninsula pincher
who creeps to higher climes,
undressing stranded manatees.

Thirty thousand sighs
for rotten orchards,
forgotten orchids in the crown
of our drowned deity.
